There have been no injuries reported after Calm Air Flight 464 went off the runway at the Naujaat airport in Nunavut.

In a statement posted to Calm Air International’s Facebook page Thursday afternoon, the company said one of its cargo planes left the runway at about 1:30 p.m. local time.

“No passengers were on board and the crew are receiving medical evaluations,” the statement reads.

“Calm Air has informed Transport Canada and the Transportation Safety Board of the incident.”

The airline company did not offer any other details about the incident, and has not returned phone calls from CBC News.

Elizabeth Kusugak, who was at the airport Thursday, said she saw the plane coming in for landing, and minutes later, it was off the runway.

In an email to CBC Friday, a Transport Canada spokesperson said the company “is aware of an incident with Calm Air that took place on [Thursday]. Transport Canada is following up with the operator to verify compliance with the Canadian Aviation Regulations and if it is determined that there has been non-compliance, the department will take appropriate action.”

Earlier in the day, Naujaat senior administrative officer Kevin Tegumiar told CBC News that emergency personnel had responded to an incident at the hamlet’s landing strip and that no injuries were reported.

Images were also posted to Facebook showing an airplane off the runway.
