Air Canada to Unveil Complimentary High-Speed Wi-Fi
Montreal, December 12, 2024 /CNW/ – Air Canada, in partnership with Bell, is poised to introduce a groundbreaking service in the aviation industry: fast and free streaming-quality Wi-Fi. Scheduled to roll out in May 2025, this amenity will initially be exclusive to Aeroplan Members, available on flights across North America and Sun destinations. The airline plans to extend this offering to long-haul international flights by 2026.
Accelerated Fleet Enhancements
With the installation of fleet-wide connectivity upgrades at an advanced stage, Air Canada anticipates completion by next year. This endeavor will see over 85% of aircraft connected by the service launch, emphasizing Air Canada’s commitment to delivering a superior in-flight experience. The Wi-Fi service will be available on Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge, and a significant portion of Air Canada Express aircraft.
Industry Milestone at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport
A notable highlight of this initiative is the inclusion of flights to and from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport. This will mark the first instance of Wi-Fi accessibility on the Q400 aircraft, enhancing connectivity on regional routes within Canada, such as Toronto-Montreal and Toronto-Ottawa.
Extensive Customer Benefits
- Free gate-to-gate access for Aeroplan Members, offering reliable, streaming-quality internet
- Non-members can purchase Wi-Fi at a reduced flat fee
- Continued availability of a range of in-flight amenities: chef-inspired menus, premium snacks, beverages, inflight entertainment, and Live TV
“As reliable access to high-speed Wi-Fi becomes increasingly essential for both business and leisure travelers, we’re thrilled to be at the forefront of offering this service,” said Mark Nasr, Executive Vice President, Marketing and Digital at Air Canada. “This initiative underscores our customer-centric approach, delivering enhanced connectivity across our fleet.”
Partnership and Technological Advancement
The service is part of an ongoing partnership with Bell, reinforcing the integral role of connectivity in the aviation industry. Blaik Kirby, Group President, Consumer and Small Business at Bell, highlighted Bell’s aim to transform the in-flight experience: “We are enabling Aeroplan Members to be productive, stream entertainment, and stay connected throughout their journey.”
To enjoy these benefits, travelers can easily sign up for free Aeroplan membership at Air Canada’s website, making connectivity accessible to a broader audience.
Since May 2023, Bell has sponsored Air Canada’s in-flight Wi-Fi services, offering Aeroplan Members features like free in-flight texting, and now extends these benefits to an even larger audience across numerous aircraft.
Air Canada remains Canada’s largest airline, renowned for its comprehensive network and premier services, dedicated to enhancing passenger experiences through innovation and technology.
