MONTREAL, Dec. 5, 2024 /CNW/ – Air Canada has announced the launch of non-stop flights between Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL), marking an exciting addition to its expanding international network. This new route is set to begin in Spring 2025, offering four times weekly, year-round service. The announcement was made during Canada’s Team Canada Trade Mission in the Philippines, celebrating 75 years of Canada-Philippines diplomatic relations.

Strategic Pacific Hub Expansion

The addition of Manila represents Air Canada’s commitment to expanding its reach in the Asia-Pacific region. As the airline’s first destination in the Philippines, it becomes the 12th destination Air Canada serves in Asia-Pacific, underscoring the company’s strategy of entering fast-growing markets currently unserved directly by the airline. This strategic move leverages the geographical advantage of Vancouver, which serves as a major gateway to Asia, allowing for convenient connections across North America.

Enhanced Connectivity for Travelers

  • Flight Schedule: The new route will operate four times a week starting April 2, 2025, utilizing the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
  • Passenger Benefits: Passengers can expect a choice of three cabins: Signature Class with lie-flat seats, Premium Economy, and Economy Class.
  • Entertainment Options: Over 1,400 hours of movies, 1,900 hours of TV shows, and 600 hours of music are available through Air Canada’s in-flight entertainment system.
  • Pre-Flight Amenities: Eligible passengers can enjoy facilities such as the Vancouver Air Canada Signature Suite and the International Maple Leaf Lounge.

Strengthening Economic and Cultural Ties

This new route is expected to bolster the economic and cultural connections between Canada and the Philippines. According to B.C. Premier David Eby, “A direct route between Vancouver and Manila will enhance opportunities for cultural exchanges and boost trade and tourism.” The route aims to facilitate stronger business ties, reflecting the longstanding connections between the two countries.

Stakeholder Reactions

Canadian officials have welcomed the new flights enthusiastically. The Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development, emphasized the significance of these flights in strengthening diplomatic ties, contributing to economic growth, and enhancing travel convenience.

Similarly, Tamara Vrooman, President and CEO of Vancouver International Airport, remarked, “This new Manila service strengthens our extensive Asia network and generates significant economic value for the region.”

Air Canada continues to enhance its international reach with new routes, demonstrating its dedication to offering expanded travel choices to its customers. Mark Galardo, EVP of Revenue and Network Planning, highlighted that “The Philippines is a crucial market, reflecting deep family and business ties with Canada, and we’re excited to meet the growing demand.”
