Thailand is investing nearly 300 billion baht ($8.82) in its aviation project, known as U-Tapao “Eastern Aviation City”. It is one of the largest megastructure projects in the country. The Thai government is planning to invest a lot of money to renovate the historic U-Tapao Airport, which dates back to the Vietnam War and is located in Pla district of Baanchang district of Rayong province.

The revised vision for the U-Tapao International Airport is to see the post-military complex become a new international airport with an area of approximately 1,040 hectares. The new airport will also be connected to the renovated airport, serving low-cost airlines and full-service carriers, connecting passengers and flights to Don Muang Airport and the airport.

The land’s boundaries will not include only the airport, because the construction plan also includes a free trade zone for products, flight training centers and aircraft maintenance, repair and rehabilitation areas.
