Tragedy struck in western Quebec in the early hours of Thursday morning as a man lost his life in a small plane crash. According to information provided by Quebec’s provincial police, an automatic emergency notification from a cell phone alerted officers at approximately 1:30 a.m., signaling a person in distress.

The crash occurred in a remote, rural area near Denholm, close to the Township of Low, Que., approximately 60 kilometers north of Ottawa. Responding swiftly to the emergency, both the Sûreté du Québec and Canadian Forces dispatched helicopters to the scene, discovering an unconscious 57-year-old man inside the aircraft.

Tragically, the sole occupant identified by the Quebec coroner’s office Friday as 57-year-old Vincent Charron did not survive and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) has identified the involved aircraft as a Cessna 172, a four-seat, single-engine piston aircraft with a high fixed wing.

As investigations unfold, the TSB has yet to determine the cause of the crash. Two investigators from the agency have been deployed and will remain at the crash site until tomorrow. The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) and Sûreté du Québec are actively involved in supporting the ongoing investigation. The community is left grappling with the loss as authorities work diligently to uncover the circumstances leading to this tragic incident.
